Gateway Krewe

Gateway Krewe

Twelve short films in twelve months, every one a different genre, all of them made by the same seven people in and around St. Louis. Practical effects, borrowed locations, an original score. The scripts and the shot plans are written by an AI; the krewe shoots them. The budget is visible on purpose.

The Twelve

Every genre gets the same treatment — campy, handmade, funny where it fits. A romcom shot like a creature feature is the joke, and everyone is in on it. The tone is the constant. The genre is the variable. The bar under each film is where its script has got to.

How this works

Shoot in blocks

Getting seven people in one place on one day is the expensive part, and it costs the same whether we shoot one film or three. So we shoot three at a time, four weekends a year, with scripts written in advance to share a location and a cast.

Release from the shelf

Every film lands on the second Saturday of the month, scheduled well in advance from a finished file. Nothing goes up the week it was cut, so a rained-out shoot day costs a scene instead of a release date.

Keep the seams

Practical effects, real locations, a score played by hand. Nothing gets fixed later that a better idea would have solved, and nothing pretends to have cost more than it did.

What a shoot day looks like

So nobody says yes to an unknown. You get the date, the address and this schedule weeks ahead, not the night before. If any of it changes, you hear about it from us first.

Two weeks outYou get a call sheet. Date, address, your call time, what you're doing, what to bring, when you're going home.
The week beforeTable read. An hour, somewhere with chairs. We read all three scripts out loud and cut every line that doesn't survive being said.
9:00Arrive. Coffee exists. Nobody is lifting anything yet.
9:30Set up. Two cameras, one boom, lights if we're indoors. Whoever's on sound puts headphones on and does not take them off all day.
10:00First scene. We shoot in whatever order is easiest for the location, not the order of the script.
1:00Food. Actual food, sitting down, an hour.
2:00Back to it. If we're ahead we get the extra angles. If we're behind we cut shots, not corners.
5:30Sixty seconds of everyone standing completely still and silent while we record the sound of the room. It feels ridiculous. The edit needs it.
6:00Wrap. Cards backed up to two drives before anyone drives home. Points logged for the day while we're all still standing here.
AfterYou're done. Editing, scoring and the release are handled — you'll get the film before it goes up.

If you can only do half a day, say so and we'll schedule your scenes into it. That's a normal thing to ask for, not a problem.

Join the krewe

The whole commitment is four weekends a year plus a table read before each one — about eight days across twelve months. Everything else happens in the edit. Tell us what you want to do and which weekends you can make. You don't have to know us — a gateway is the way in, and that is the point of the name. Nobody is paid up front; if the channel ever earns, it splits by who did what on each film.

Which weekends can you make?
Have you shot with us before?

Pitch an idea and you're giving us permission to use it, and you get an “idea by” credit on the film if we make it. You keep the idea — we don't own it and you're free to make it yourself too. Nobody is paid up front; if the channel ever earns, it splits by who did what on each film.

What we still need

Block 01 shoots in October. Tick anything you can cover and it comes through with your sign-up above.

The channel goes live with Film 01 on Saturday 12 December 2026, and a new film lands the second Saturday of every month after that.
